Watchmen has come out to be one of the most critically praised shows of the year, and it looks like its latest endorsement comes from the former president of the USA himself—Barack Obama.

Obama had posted up a list of his top movies of the year, and he also included a shortlist of television shows which included Damon Lindelof's fitting update to Alan Moore's original story. Check out the post:

While some may complain about how Watchmen is political and ‘pushing an agenda', I think they're missing the point that the original comic was nothing but political. A lot of praise is going specifically to Lindelof's use of the Tulsa Massacre as an opening point, seeing as it's considered one of the most blatant acts of injustice in history that has somehow been swept under the rug. Even the depiction of the Kavalry leaders complaining about how hard it is to be a white man in America seems to be something stripped straight out of modern White Supremacist speeches.

If you ask me, Watchmen goes above and beyond as a follow-up to the original. Besides amazing production value and relevant themes, it also manages to link itself to the characters in the original in ways that can be unexpected. I even find myself kind of bummed now that Zack Snyder didn't push forward with the giant squid in his movie; it would have made the film the perfect companion to this series.

No second season has been officially announced, but you can catch Watchmen on HBO.
