Universal is planning to jump in on the cinematic universe bandwagon after they announced their monsterverse as the Dark Universe, but apparently, this isn't sitting so well with the folks down at Warner Bros.
According to THR, Warner Bros. is currently mulling over a legal plan of action since Dark Universe was the working title of their Justice League Dark project. Even though it is just a working title for the movie, it had been announced by Guillermo del Toro back in 2013 when he was attached as director.
As of now, the project had lost its director Doug Liman after scheduling conflicts, and Warner Bros. is eyeing IT director Andrés Muschietti and Argentinian filmmaker Damián Szifron to potentially take the helm.
Depending on the success of the Dark Universe, Warner Bros. will have to wait out just what the audience thinks of an interconnected movie universe about public domain monsters.
To be honest, I'm not really impressed with the Dark Universe title at all. They should have just secured the rights for Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and started from there. That book already has characters like Dr. Jekyll and the Invisible Man in their ranks. No harm in adding more.
Tom Cruise's The Mummy is an upcoming movie set in the Dark Universe world, and it comes out June 9.
