Venom 2 Could Start Shooting in November

Though Venom was a critical bomb, the movie still made a lot of money in the box office, and Sony is confident enough to push forward with a sequel. What's interesting is, the sequel could start shooting before the year ends.

According to DiscussingFilm, Venom 2 is looking at production start on Nov. 18 in London. Andy Serkis (Mowgli) has officially signed on to direct, and Kelly Marcel will be returning to write the script for the film. Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams are expected to reprise their roles for the sequel, and this time we get to see Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady take center stage as Carnage.

Personally, I'm not that big a fan of how Venom turned out, and I wasn't surprised at all when it was revealed that Marvel asked Sony to remove Tom Holland's cameo in the film. With the MCU and DCEU setting a new standard for superhero movies, Venom was basically a step back, and I think it's only a matter of time before Sony hits another major flop for the SUMC.

Then again, things could turn out very differently with Serkis in the director's chair. With Sony once again on their own with the Spider-Man franchise, they will have to prove to everyone that they don't need the MCU to move forward. Venom 2 is now under pressure to deliver what could be the general tone of the SUMC.

No official release date has been announced for the Venom sequel.
