The Little Mermaid: Zendaya Completely Onboard with Ariel Casting

With Zendaya already gaining fans from The Greatest Showman, and recently, Spider-Man: Far from Home, a lot of fans were sure that she was going to land the lead role of Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Disney had decided on singer Halle Bailey though, but it looks like Zendaya is completely onboard.

This was her post after the news came out:

We don't know why Disney wouldn't cast Zendaya in the role, but I imagine that Bailey was the more qualified choice. She'll be joining a cast which includes Jacob Tremblay (Room) as Flounder and Awkwafina (Ocean's 8) as Scuttle the seagull.

Rumor has it that Melissa McCarthy is currently in talks to play Ursula, but a lot of fans had protested online, demanding that the role be given to a drag queen. Since Ursula's design was based on famous 70s drag queen Divine, it would only seem right that hey cast an actual queen in the role.

Personally, I would love to have The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's Titus Burgess take on the role. He already played Sebastian in the Broadway play, but he himself says that he would prefer to play the infamous sea witch.

No release date has been set for The Little Mermaid, but with casting and production in mind, we could see it hit theaters sometime in 2021. That's my guess anyway.
