Suicide Squad Director Gets Honest About #ReleaseTheAyerCut

Though James Gunn is set to release his reboot/sequel of The Suicide Squad next year, some DCEU fans have been campaigning for WB to give them one more solid and release the director's cut of the first Suicide Squad. Director David Ayer has also been adamant about the push, and he continues to speak bluntly about how the studio ruined his vision.

He just posted this while replying to a fan on Twitter:

While Zack Snyder's Justice League is said to cost a lot more when it comes to finishing the VFX, Ayer has said that completing his cut of the film would be relatively cheaper. We don't know specifically what needs to be done, but I imagine it will have something to do with VFX, and maybe a few pick-ups.

When the first teaser for Suicide Squad came out for SDCC, fans were teased a dark and gritty film, but after the reactions to Batman v Superman, the studio was said to have wanted the movie to be more ‘fun' and ordered a new cut from the studio that made the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer. While that teaser was fun, I wouldn't have traded it for a more substantial film—one that Ayer promises was his original intention.

For now, it looks like WB is just waiting on how the Snyder Cut of Justice League will fare. If that one does well, then maybe there's hope that Ayer's original vision is going to see the light of day. We have yet to see Jared Leto's real Joker performance.

For now, James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is set to come out on Aug. 6, 2021.
