Star Wars: Jon Favreau Didn’t Get to Direct an Episode of The Mandalorian Because of The Lion King

Though Jon Favreau is attached as showrunner for The Mandalorian, he actually didn't get the chance to direct an episode, with the pilot being directed by Clone Wars showrunner Dave Filoni. What's interesting is, Favreau is hoping he'll take the helm with the second season.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Favreau gives us an update on the upcoming second season, which is said to have already been greenlit. Favreau says, "We're working on season 2, writing, prepping with the directors and getting ready to direct myself, actually… I didn't get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King. So I'll step in for one of them."

Though Favreau didn't get to take the helm for some episodes, he did get some other interesting folks at the helm of The Mandalorian. Besides Filoni, you have the likes of Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). Waititi and Howard are also said to have some cameo roles in the show, but nothing has been said about the other directors taking on small roles.

The pressure is on for The Mandalorian to deliver. Besides being one of the main hooks for Disney+, it will also set the bar for other upcoming Star Wars shows (and even Marvel ones). The good thing is, the preview looks amazing, and it seems to be embracing the raw elements that made Star Wars so fun in the first place.

Catch The Mandalorian when it comes out on Disney+ which launches on Nov. 12.
