Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was in the midst of production when COVID-19 broke out, and it would be a while before we get any big reveals for the movie. There is still a lot of mystery as to who Awkwafina is playing in the movie, but it looks like we finally have a clue.
According to Fandomwire, Awkwafina has been cast as the comic character Fah Lo Suee; but the movie is said to be shaking up her origin. Originally Fah Lo Suee was the sister of Shang-Chi, but in the film she will be the daughter of the Mandarin (Tony Leung) and will be the potential interest for Shang-Chi (Simu Liu).
We don’t have any more details besides that, but I can imagine that Awkwafina is also going to be a proficient fighter. Being the Mandarin’s daughter, she’ll also have to choose sides in the film—and it’s probably going to be with the hero.
With Shang-Chi’s release still very far, awe still have no solid grasp on what this story will be. If anything, I’m sure that fans are going to have some kind of expectations. For one, there should be some solid martial arts in this film, and the take on The Mandarin has to be a serious one this time.
This is also just my personal wish, but I would love to get an update on the fake Mandarin a.k.a. Trevor (Ben Kingsley) and what happened to him after he was abducted in prison by the real Mandarin’s goons.
For now, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for a release on May 7, 2021.
