One Punch Man Creator Expresses Excitement Over Live-Action Movie

News had come out yesterday that Sony was working on a live-action film for One Punch Man, and though there was mixed reception from fans, it looks like creator ONE has nothing but enthusiasm for the film.

He posted this on Twitter:

Translated, it means:

One Punch Man's live-action movie has been decided.

Thanks to everyone! Thank you very much.

I cannot thank you enough. I'm really looking forward to what the Saitama story made in Hollywood will look like!

Admittedly Hollywood has had a bad track record of turning anime into films from Ghost in the Shell to Death Note, but I guess you can't blame them for trying. One Punch Man is probably one of the biggest anime properties right now, and a movie would probably draw an audience in.

Personally, I just have a problem with the writers Sony hired for the job. I mean, no offense to Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, but Venom and the new Jumanji movies were pretty mediocre storywise, and the story of Saitama is anything but. When this movie does happen though, I'm just hoping they find some fun satire to the Super Sentai material that OPM takes influence from. I also think it's relevant to explore Saitama's dilemma and what it means to be a hero.

No release date has been set for the One Punch Man film, but if things get going smoothly, we could be looking at a premiere sometime in 2022.
