Maul Actor Sam Witwer was Up for a Role in The Mandalorian Season 1

Sam Witwer may be the voice of Maul now, but he's had a history with Star Wars before that, playing the role of Galen Marek in The Force Unleashed. Though Witwer does generally VA work now, he just revealed that he was actually up for a role in the first season of The Mandalorian.

Talking to SW Holocron, Witwer explained:

"I got put on a shortlist on Mandalorian for some role and I thought maybe that was from Dave [Filoni], but then I found out it was actually from casting. Casting came up with the idea. The way they do it, I guess, is they put a bunch of people on a list and then the producers pick someone."

Witwer apparently asked to be removed from the cast list because he didn't want to make it look like he got the part because he was friends with director Dave Filoni (who he collaborated with for Rebels and Clone Wars). I don't know about now, but I'd be very open to Witwer coming back to actually play a live-action part for Star Wars.

Witwer didn't explain what role he was up for, but some guess that it was probably for wannabe bounty hunter Toro Calican. Then again, I wouldn't be opposed for the Lucasfilm story group to do a rewrite of Galen Marek a.k.a. Starkiller, so that we could find another Force user in the show who could clash with someone like Ahsoka.

For now, the second season of The Mandalorian is set to come out on Disney+ this October.
