Logan Director Confirmed to Helm Indiana Jones 5

Steven Spielberg had directed all four Indiana Jones film, and he was set up to helm the upcoming fifth. What's interesting is, it looks like Spielberg is ready to pass the reins to none other than Logan director James Mangold.

Talking to Collider, producer Frank Marshall explains why Mangold was the ideal choice to take over for Indiana Jones 5, "His love of the franchise. He's a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time."

Despite Spielberg not directing, he is still attached to the film as a producer. With Indy expecting to ‘pass the torch' with this film, it would make sense that Spielberg would do the same, letting someone like Mangold take over the franchise this time around.

As for where the film is in development, Marshall has confirmed that the movie is still in very early stages. For now, it seems that the film is going to be forced to take its time, considering that productions are all still halted because of the Coronavirus. Even when people get back to work, it's important that every safety measure has to be taken.

Personally I don't know what to expect from the film, but I'm sure that Harrison Ford doesn't want to do any more of these movies. While I'm fine with a ‘grand finale' of sorts like what Mangold did with Logan, I'm expecting Lucasfilm wanting to build another franchise with Indiana Jones.

Indiana Jones 5 is expected to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
