Josh Whitehouse Cast as Male Lead in Game of Thrones Prequel Series

Game of Thrones may be set to end next year, but HBO has already started to put things in motion for the spinoff series. News had just come out that Naomi Watts was cast in the show, and now Deadline is reporting that the series has found its male lead.

Josh Whitehouse (Poldark, Mr. Burberry) has been cast in the unspecified lead role of HBO's prequel series to Game of Thrones. The show is said to be taking place a hundred years before the War of the Five Kings, and is rumored to be called The Long Night. The show will have writer Jane Goldman as the showrunner with George R.R. Martin attached as co-executive producer.

A lot of speculation has been going around which characters we're going to meet in the series, and if this is the time before the creation of The Wall, some fans would like to see the infamous Bran Stark a.k.a. Bran the Builder—who organized the building of the wall, and was helped by giants and the Children of the Forest.

There are also a lot of different characters that we should hope to see in the prequel. Maybe Whitehouse could be playing Aegon the Conqueror as he attempted to rule Westeros. There's also Lan the Clever who was said to have been the originator of the Lannister bloodline.

If anything, there's a lot of characters to pick and choose from, but I would also be impressed if they covered someone who didn't already have his history written in the lore. If they want this show to last as long as Thrones did, I think they would want to bank on surprising the audiences.

No release date has been set for HBO's Game of Thrones prequel spinoff.
