Jack Black Believes Jon Favreau's Zathura is the 'Real' Jumanji 2

While a lot of people may consider Jumanji: The Next Level as Jumanji 3, star Jack Black has come out to say that it's actually the fourth Jumanji film; as it turns out, Black believes that the real ‘Jumanji 2' is actually Jon Favreau's 2005 space adventure Zathura.

Black tells Variety, "A lot of people don't know there was kind of a sequel (to Jumanji) called Zathura. It's basically Jumanji in space and it was directed by the great Jon Favreau; very talented—so then, our first Jumanji, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle would therefore be Jumanji 3 making this one number four. I rest my case. "

If you ask me, Zathura is definitely the spiritual successor of the original Jumanji compared to Welcome to the Jungle. Though Welcome to the Jungle had a lot of laughs, it didn't have the same horror element to it that the original Jumanji was known for. If you want to check it out, it stars a pre-Hunger Games Josh Hutcherson as well as a pre-Twilight Kristen Stewart. It also had Dax Shepard as the astronaut as well as Frank Oz (Yoda) as the voice of the killer robot.

For now, Jumanji: The Next Level is getting some mediocre reviews. If anything it's probably on the same level as Welcome to the Jungle. Though I love the concept of the game upgrading itself, I always thought something was missing with this new iteration.

Then again, that's just my opinion. I'm sure there are some kids that ove the first movie, and think it's great. Catch Jumanji: The Next Level in theaters now.
