Ever since Marvel announced that Inhumans was going to be a series, everything went downhill from there. All the previews for the show were met with negative reception and the IMAX debut was also critically panned. Now news has it that ABC has cancelled Inhumans way before the show even started airing.

According to Renew Cancel TV, ABC has been promoting Inhumans as “the COMPLETE series,” meaning that the show will only be one season. If there ever were plans for a second, it seems that they’ve been canned by Marvel and ABC. With the negative buzz surrounding the show now, it’s doubtful that Inhumans will debut with strong numbers.

Of course it’s still entirely possible that ABC will continue the show if audience reception is positive. Just because a show is cancelled doesn’t really mean it’s terrible. Just ask Firefly or Arrested Development. There’s still some hope for Inhumans down the line.

Personally, I hope they just reboot it as a movie. With Marvel Studios entering phase 4 after Avengers 4, I can imagine a lot of room for an Inhumans movie with better production value and writing.

Inhumans premieres in ABC on Sept. 29.
