HBO’s Watchmen Leads Emmys with a Whopping 26 Nominations

Though the show may have been review-bombed by fans claiming it was too ‘political', HBO's Watchmen was a critical success, and Damon Lindelof has been praised for his follow-up to Alan Moore's acclaimed comic. With the Emmy nominees just recently announced, Watchmen has come out on top the most nominations compared to every other show.

According to the official Emmys website, Watchmen has earned a total of 26 nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series (Regina King), and Outstanding Lead Actor (Jeremy Irons). Numerous supporting actors have also landed Emmy nominations from Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jovan Adepo, and Louis Gossett Jr.

The show has also earned a lot of technical nominations as well from Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Directing for multiple episodes. You can check the full list out here.

I have to say, I was keeping track of the show when the episodes were coming out, and Watchmen felt like kind of a sleeper hit; it was a darling among critics, but nobody was talking about it online (a huge thanks to the review-bombing crowd for that). With the recent rise of the #BlackLivesMatter movement though, it has found a whole new place of relevance, and its social commentary has become striking while at the same time, telling a very gripping story in itself.

We don't know what Watchmen is going to win at the Emmys, but whatever it is, I think it very well deserves it. If you haven't checked it out yet, you can see Watchmen on HBO Max.
