Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage to Lead the Toxic Avenger Reboot

Peter Dinklage had become a pop-culture icon with the role of Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, and as the show has ended, fans are wondering what he's going to do next. As it turns out, he's going to be the star on a reboot of the quintessential 80s cult film.

According to Deadline, Dinklage is set to star as the lead of the reboot of Toxic Avenger from Legendary, and Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore) is set to direct. Here's the description of the film:

A contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment's successful 1984 low-budget action-comedy hit, The Toxic Avenger is steeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool. When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.

It's also worth noting that original directors Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are attached as producers for the movie. The Toxic Avenger being a parody of superhero films back then, it's interesting to see how this reboot will be different, seeing that the superhero genre is currently dominating the box office.

With the Toxic Avenger being a hulking brute of a character, I wonder how Dinklage will be able to pull off this role. I can imagine him as the nerd pushover character before he falls in toxic waste but as the Toxic Avenger? Either Dinklage will just provide the voice, or they'll just digitally add a larger Dinklage as they did with him in Avengers: Infinity War.

No release date has been set for Legendary's The Toxic Avenger reboot, but you can catch Dinklage in The Croods: A New Age which just came out last month.
