Check Out the First Trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold

As promised, the first trailer for the Dora the Explorer movie is finally here, and we get our first taste of the classic kids' cartoon being turned into a live-action film.

Here's the official description:

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

Admittedly the tone of the film is a lot more mature than the original cartoon, but it's kind of too childish for the teen audience. At best this movie looks to be a more watered down take on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

By the looks of it, the reception has not been so sparkling. Out of 3 million views, there are currently 41k likes versus 14k dislikes. I guess Dora does have a reputation to uphold, seeing as it was one of the biggest kids shows on television during its heyday. Though the audience does seem to be targeting teens, I think it's the younger kids who would have a real kick out of this movie.

Will Dora manage to captivate audiences? Hopefully a second trailer manages to get everyone onboard when it comes out.

Catch Dora and the Lost City of Gold when it hits theaters Aug. 2.
