Dave Filoni had worked on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels before moving on to live-action with The Mandalorian. With his history in Star Wars, it would make sense that Filoni would find himself meeting with George Lucas regularly. What’s touching is, Lucas is said to consider Filoni as his son.

This comes from another Mandalorian director Bryce Dallas Howard, who says that her father, Ron Howard, was mentored by Lucas, and Lucas is doing the same for Filoni. During a Q & A after the Mandalorian premiere, Howard said, “George was, and is, an extraordinary mentor to my dad and mentoring is very important to him and he’s a huge mentor to Dave Filoni. He actually told me a few weeks ago that he considers him almost like a son.”

Here’s the clip:

You can hear the collective “Awww” from the audience, and Howard says that the “passing of knowledge” is clear when it comes to Lucas and Filoni.

Even before Mandalorian, in BTS featurettes for Clone Wars and Rebels, you can already kind of piece together that Lucas was mentoring Filoni, and it’s nice that he would say something like that about him, considering that Filoni has become such a big influencer in Star Wars. I wonder if he knew years ago when he was working on The Clone Wars that he would be directing the pilot for the first-ever live-action Star Wars show.

For now, The Mandalorian is being met with praise by fans, and it looks like Filoni has a lot more Star Wars to work on in his future.
