Arrow Co-Creator to Script Spider-Verse Spinoff Jackpot

Despite sharing Spider-Man with the MCU, Sony is set to build their own cinematic universe with Spider-Verse characters like Venom and Morbius. News of spinoffs just keep on coming, and another film down the line is going to come from Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim.

According to Deadline, Guggenheim has been hired by Sony to write a film based on character Jackpot. Guggenheim had actually written for the Jackpot comic, and has worked on several other comic properties, particularly The CW's Arrowverse.

Admittedly, Jackpot as a character in Marvel is still kind of obscure. We do know that she's a mother, and that her powers allow for superhuman strength. At some point, Jackpot takes drugs to enhance her physical prowess, but we don't know if the character is going to be just translated literally when it comes to the film.

Then again, the upside is, with Jackpot being an unknown character, Guggenheim is open to rewriting her as much as she wants. Then again, he's already writing for her, seeing as he's worked on the Jackpot comic.

I have to say, this is another one of those Sony projects that I'm not so sure about. I mean, a film following Spider-Gwen or Spider-Woman would make sense for me, but Jackpot and Madame Web? Who's going to be lining up for these characters? It's either Sony knows something we don't, or they're just really desperate to build a cinematic universe out of Spider-Man characters.

For now, the next Spider-Verse film, Morbius, is set to come out on March 19, 2021.
