Andy Serkis Says Tom Hardy is Involved in Writing the Script for Venom 2

Though Venom did make a lot of bank in the box office, Ruben Fleischer is not returning to direct the sequel. Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) is now set to take the helm, and he talks a bit about the story and his plans for the next SUMC entry.

Talking during TCA 2019 (via /Film), Serkis revealed that star Tom Hardy is very involved with making the script for Venom 2, and the film will follow his treatment. "Tom is very involved with the writing with Kelly Marcel of the new story, so it's very much centered around their take," said Serkis.

As for what Serkis himself wants to bring into the franchise, he explains, "I'm right at the beginning stages… I've got some very clear ideas about the journey I'd like to see visually and how we can take the characters into another dimension."

The ending of the first Venom film had teased a sequel with Woody Harrelson's Carnage, and even then we also have hints at all the other symbiotes coming to form. If anything, fans are just really waiting for a crossover with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, because having Venom push through without the character he was made to antagonize feels kind of like a Voldemort movie franchise without Harry Potter.

No release date has been set for Venom 2 yet, but hopefully we get a solid update before the year ends. Personally I just want Sony to keep giving Marvel the reins and stop this whole SUMC train before it blows up in their faces.
