Aladdin Fanart Imagines Will Smith's Genie in the Style of the Original Animation

No matter how you put it, Will Smith's Genie in Aladdin is going to be compared to Robin Williams' original animated version. Admittedly, the reception for the latest trailer has been positive, and a lot of fans can't wait to see the classic come to life this May.

While we wait for the movie to come out though, there's this cool piece of fanart posted up on Reddit of Will Smith's Genie in the style of the original cartoon. Check it out:

Personally, I think the eyes look a tad too weird, but the image is no doubt from the classic Disney aesthetic. Even the Aladdin in the photo looks like the original cartoon, just with the clothes changed up.

While we should never expect anyone to replace Robin Williams' take on the Genie, this movie will promise to give Smith his own version of the character. Whereas the animated Genie was an exaggeration of Williams himself, this live-action version looks to make Genie the "Will-Smith-est" character there ever was.

I have no problems with that though. Smith is famously charismatic, and based on what we've seen in the trailers, he's pretty fun to watch onscreen.

Ultimately, we'll just have to wait for the film to come out before we reach our final verdict. Sure there's a lot of pressure for Smith to follow Williams, but I'm sure he can make his Genie fun in his own way.

Catch Aladdin in theaters May 24.
