We Won’t Be Seeing Peter Capaldi As The Doctor Anymore

Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who to give the series a "fresh start." The 57-year-old actor said he wants to give Chris Chibnall a chance to choose his own Time Lord, according to the Mirror.

The move came after it was announced that Steven Moffat is also stepping down as writer for the BBC hit. BBC bosses are reportedly expecting the 12th Doctor to leave with Moffat in 2017.

Apparently, Chibnall thought he was given the chance to choose his own Time Lord when he became new chief in series 11. While that didn't pan out, he could get his chance now.

According to a BBC source, the bosses appreciate what Peter contributed to the role. However, some of them seemingly believe that it would "make sense" if they gave Chibnall a chance to recruit an actor that he would want to play the Doctor.

"They hope he will be able to find someone who can have the same impact as Matt Smith did when Steven Moffat kicked off his run as executive producer," the source added.

It looks like Capaldi had known for some time that he might need to leave the show. The Scottish actor said last month that 2016 could be his final year playing the Doctor and that he's "terrified" of the possibility. He added that he loves Doctor Who but "it can be an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started."

Capaldi's run as the Time Lord might be over and he might be afraid of making a fresh start in another series, but with his talent and a list of awards under his belt, I have no doubt he won't be having a hard time at all.
