Alien: Covenant Sequel Reportedly Canceled

Alien: Covenant was an odd film, trying to mix the horror of Alien with the examination of life from Prometheus. The result led to a film with a huge identity crisis, though the ending was a great cliffhanger that actually got fans a bit excited. If the following report is true, it looks like we won't be getting a sequel to Covenant anytime soon.

This forum post from Blu-ray forum states that the sequel was supposed to start pre-production but the box office results of Covenant prevented that. Limping at 74 million dollars, the people in Fox were reportedly disappointed with the outcome and have canceled the sequel because of that.

The sequel to Covenant was originally due to start pre-production this month in Sydney. After the box office results filming wascancelled, and a warehouse storage unit full of stuff was auctioned off a few months ago. So the original plan of pumping out another quickly has definitely changed with no immediate plans for anything.

Fans might want to take this with a grain of salt, at least until official confirmation from a more reliable source is released. That being said, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the sequel get canceled, given its poor box office performance. It seems like a fresh concept for the franchise is in order since there hasn't been a good Alien film since the third one.
