Song Joong Ki's Co-Star Dead at 50: Descendants of the Sun Actor Nam Moon-Chul Cause of Death Revealed

Song Joong Ki's co-star in Descendants of the Sun, Nam Moon Chul, has died at the age of 50, multiple news outlets confirmed.

Moon Chul's agency, Management BK, first announced the tragic news in a statement, confirming that the actor passed away on October 4. It also mentioned Nam Moon Chul's cause of death.

"The actor passed away at the age of 50 after being diagnosed with colon cancer and battling against the disease," the statement said, as quoted by Asia One.

It also detailed that Moon Chul's mortuary is being held at the National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital's Room 10. Meanwhile, a procession will reportedly happen on October 6 to honor his life.

Fans, Colleagues Share Heartbreaking Tribute to Descendants of the Sun Actor Nam Moon-Chul

Following his death, his agency and fans paid tribute to him and recalled the memories they shared with the late actor.

Management BK said, "[We] will remember his passion for acting. We hope you will express your condolences."

Actor Kim Ji-Chul also shared his tribute on Instagram and asked fans not to forget the veteran actor.

"My brother... I'm sorry to hear about the late news. I'll say hi. Please smile and greet me as you used to. Please don't forget Nam Moon-chul. Please remember," he said.

Actor Nam Moon-Chul's Legacy

Moon-Chul's death put an end to his decades-old career.

He began his career as a theater actor before landing on his acting debut through the Korean film Break Out. From there, he began appearing in more films and series, including Six Flying Dragons, Nokdu Flower, Made For Each Other, and Priests.

The 2007 K-drama Conspiracy in the Court served Moon-Chul's biggest break that opened new opportunities for him.

Prior to his death, he still managed to join a KakaoTV K-drama, titled Mad for Each Other. He played the role of the male lead's father in the series. Moon-Chul also marked his last cameo appearance through the 2021 film, Young Adult Matters.
