I think it's pretty safe to call James Gunn the undisputed King of comic book films at this point. Not only was he successful in turning the Guardians of the Galaxy from D-list comic book characters into one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most elite teams, but his latest project over at the DC universe The Suicide Squad is also receiving a tremendous amount of support from fans and critics.

Speaking of The Suicide Squad, Gunn apparently snuck in a cameo from a popular Guardians of the Galaxy and that's probably the closest thing we'll get to a Marvel and DC crossover. But here's the thing, people have yet to notice the said cameo, and James himself feels bewildered that so far, nobody has been able to catch it. Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn once again opened up about Dave Bautista's supposed involvement in the film before talking about the intriguing cameo.

Gunn revealed: "Well, I mean people know I almost cast Dave [Bautista] in a role and he couldn't do it, so he didn't. Other than that, well, there might be a Guardian somewhere in the film that no one has seen yet and I'm so surprised by... I've gotten a hundred reviews from this movie and I'm just astounded."

I haven't seen the film yet and now that Gunn has hinted at a potentially mind-blowing cameo, I'll make sure to be on the lookout for it. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure Warner Bros. and DC Films are very thrilled with the generally positive response The Suicide Squad has been getting and it no longer comes as a surprise how Gunn was once again asked to helm another DC film in the future.
The Suicide Squad is now showing in cinemas. It will also be available for streaming on HBO Max.
