Warning: if you haven't seen James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, this article contains MAJOR SPOILERS so read at your own risk!

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is finally here and it's already safe to say that it's one of the best comic book film releases of this year. The film sees the director do something that he wasn't allowed to in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that is let loose and if you're a fan of films like Watchmen and Deadpool, The Suicide Squad will not disappoint you.

However, despite the excitement fans are feeling about Gunn's debut DCEU offering, some people ended up getting pissed at the director after seeing the film.

If you may recall, Gunn has stated in previous interviews that not everyone in Task Force X will survive the chaos the film will bring, and making true to his promise, The Suicide Squad saw the deaths of several notable members of the squad. Shockingly enough, Gunn also decided to kill two of the original characters from David Ayer's Suicide Squad — Captain Boomerang and Rick Flag.

The opening sequences of the film saw Boomer get killed during a bloody encounter with Corto Maltese soldiers along with other members Javelin, Blackguard, TDK, and Savant, among others. Flag aka the de facto leader of the squad was later killed in the climactic part of the film after being stabbed by Peacemaker.

Considering both Flag and Boomer were considered key members of the squad, fans were under the impression that they would've survived the aftermath of the film but as it turns out, it was always part of the plan to kill them off.

Taking to Twitter, DCEU fans expressed their shock after learning that two out of the four original cast members died in the film. Some even called out the Guardians of the Galaxy director for his "questionable" decision. Check out the reactions here:

I gotta be honest, I also felt disappointed at how the film treated Rick Flag and Captain Boomerang because both characters had tremendous potential to be great. Still, that doesn't take away the fact that The Suicide Squad was a comic book film masterpiece and I'm so ready to see what James Gunn has in store for the DCEU now that he's confirmed to be helming more projects in the future.

The Suicide Squad is now showing in cinemas. It's also available for streaming on HBO Max.
