7 Things We Learned From the New Avengers: Endgame Trailer

On Thursday, Marvel Studios set the Internet ablaze by dropping a surprise new trailer for its next superhero extravaganza, Avengers: Endgame. Virtually no one was expecting it, but in any case, its arrival managed to provide some intriguing new details about the film without spoiling too much of the plot.

We don’t want to keep you waiting, so without further ado, here are seven things we learned from the new Avengers: Endgame trailer:

  1. Hawkeye’s Family Is (Probably) Dead

The very fact that Clint Barton will trade in his Hawkeye persona for Ronin in Endgame was proof enough for many fans that his family likely died in the Decimation. However, while we still have no concrete proof that this is the case, the shot of Clint mentoring a young female archer (presumably his daughter) before quickly cutting to him standing in the rain as Ronin certainly seems to suggest that, yes, his wife and kids were snapped out of existence. Then again, this could also be a case of clever editing meant to misdirect fans, which is something the Russo Brothers have done in the past. In fact, some are theorizing the young girl in this shot is actually Marvel’s other Hawkeye, Kate Bishop. Only time will tell, though.

  2. Red Hair, Don’t Care

While it might not seem like a major revelation, a number of fans were thrilled to see Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow with red hair once more. This is the look she’s known for in the comics, but in Infinity War, she had gone blonde, presumably because she was on the run. However, it’s refreshing to see that, in a film that appears to be placing a heavy emphasis on the original on-screen Avengers, Black Widow will be returning to her red roots (no pun intended).

  3. Ant-Man’s Timeline

In the first teaser trailer for Endgame, we saw Scott – who was trapped in the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp – waving to the camera outside of the Avengers compound. Among those inside the compound, though, was Black Widow, who still had her short blonde hair from Infinity War. When we see Scott for the first time in this new trailer, he’s apparently just come out of the Quantum Realm and is coming to grips with the realization that half the population has vanished. However, all of the shots of Natasha show her with long hair, so if we piece things together, it stands to reason that Scott doesn’t travel through time in the Quantum Realm as many have theorized – at least not right away. Instead, he likely escapes relatively soon after the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp and is with the Avengers for however much time passes between then and the team’s final encounter with Thanos.

  4. Hawkeye the Hedgehog

Along with his new moniker, we’ve known for quite some time that Clint would be sporting a new hairdo in Endgame. We’d seen bits of it in set photos, and we even got a brief look at it in the shot of the rainy reunion with Natasha. This is probably our best look at the new style yet, though, and the Internet certainly seems to have mixed feelings on it.

  5. Quantum Suits

Leaked images and toy packaging have made it no secret that the Avengers would be donning spiffy new white suits at some point in Endgame. Here, we get our first look at them in live-action, and – as many have theorized – they are, in fact, Quantum suits. Marvel has essentially confirmed as much, noting, “The new suits with the Avengers 'A' emblem seem inspired by Hank Pym's suit he wore to rescue Janet Van Dyne in the Quantum Realm at the end of Ant-Man and The Wasp.”

  6. Reunited and It Feels so Good

Not only is this shot the first time we’ve seen Tony Stark not floating aimlessly through space, but it’s also the first time we’ve seen him and Steve Rogers in the same room as one another since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Then, of course, they had just finished beating the living tar out of each other, but thanks to the common threat of Thanos, they’ve appeared to put their differences aside.

  7. ‘I Like This One’

Now that Captain Marvel is in theaters, it makes perfect sense to start including Carol Danvers in the Endgame marketing, and Marvel Studios sure wasted little time. Thor, glaring menacingly at Carol, summons Stormbringer, which whizzes mere inches away from her head and into his hand. However, when Carol doesn’t so much as flinch and then offers the God of Thunder a smirk, he declares, “I like this one.” And who wouldn’t?

Avengers: Endgame assembles in theaters April 26.
