5 Burning Questions the First Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Raises

The first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer arrived this morning, and to little surprise, the new footage has raised several major questions about our favorite web-slinger and those close to him.

While we have our theories in some cases, others still have us scratching our heads. So, with that in mind, here are five burning questions the first Spider-Man: Far From Home raises:

  1. Are Happy Hogan and Aunt May a Thing?

OK, maybe this isn’t what you would necessarily describe as a “burning question.” However, we happen to be very interested in what appears to be a relationship between Happy Hogan and Aunt May. Judging by the pair’s exchange, the amorous feelings may only go one way, but here’s hoping Happy has finally found some happiness.

  2. Who Gives Spider-Man His New Costumes?

In the trailer, we see Spider-Man debut not just one but two new costumes. One is red and dark blue and the other is evocative of his Stealth Suit from the comics. That being said, who gives him these new suits? Although he made his first proto-Spidey suit, his two subsequent ones were gifts from Tony Stark, who’s not in the trailer (more on that shortly). Are we to believe Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. provides them?

  3. Is Tony Stark Still Alive?

Although we see Happy Hogan, Aunt May, Ned, Michelle and Flash in the trailer, one person from Spider-Man: Homecoming who’s conspicuous by his absence is Peter’s mentor, Tony Stark. Since this film is said to take place after Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame (more on that shortly) and Tony’s nowhere to be found, some – naturally – fear the worst, which is that he dies in Endgame. However, we see no reason to jump to that extreme… yet.

  4. Is Mysterio Working With Spider-Man… Or Against Him?

When we finally see Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck/Mysterio in all his dome-headed glory, he’s battling another classic Spider-Man villain, Hydro-Man. However, we can’t help but wonder if this means he’s working with Spider-Man, or if perhaps Hydro-Man, as well as Molten Man and who we think is Sandman, are merely machinations created by Mysterio for him to “battle” in an effort to make him appear to be a hero. After all, that would certainly line up with the character’s debut in Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s The Amazing Spider-Man #13, where he feigned superheroism to trick Spidey.

  5. How Is Peter Alive?

When we last saw Peter Parker (and Nick Fury, for that matter), he was turned to dust, courtesy of Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. However, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Spider-Man: Far From Home takes place after the events of the yet to be released Avengers: Endgame. This, of course, begs the question: How is Peter alive? The answer is most likely that he’s brought back to life in Endgame since that’s what we’re all expecting will happen, but Marvel Studios has lied to us in the past (the Infinity War trailer misdirection and the title of Avengers 4 are just two examples). Could it be that Far From Home actually takes place before Infinity War? Only time will tell.
