25 Best School Anime Series

One of the most talked-about series in the anime world is Fruits Basket. It was adapted into an anime in the 2000s and was relaunched in 2019. It was about Tohru Honda, an orphan who found herself living with the Sohma family with a curse that makes them Chinese Zodiac animals. 

It is one of the most praised romance anime by fans and the good thing is that it has a school setup. Toradora! follows Taiga and Ryuuji who wanted to win the hearts of their crushes. In order to achieve their goal, the two of them decided to team up and form an alliance. 

From the title of the series itself, fans will get the impression that the series is set in a school. The story centers on Eikichi Onizuka, a high school teacher who was once a tough gangster. He changed his career path to becoming inroads with the ladies. Surprisingly, he became a model mentor and friend to his students.

Another took an interesting twist to school-themed anime by having a horror genre in it. It is about Kouichi Sakakibara who transferred to Yomiyama North and unleashed the dark secrets of class 3-3. His mission is to find out what is happening in his new weird school. 

If there is an anime that will scare viewers, there are also those that will make fans cry. One of those is A Silent Voice. Shota Ishida bullied his deaf classmate when they were in 6th grade. After a few years, he was suffocating with disgust and guilt and decided to ask for forgiveness from Shoko Nishimiya, his deaf classmate. 

Also known as Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya talks about Haruhi Suzumiya who formed the SOS Brigade. It is one of the famous school clubs that focus on supernatural events. As time goes by, the members of the club realize that Haruhi is quirky and there might be something more to it.

He and the rest of the members of the club noticed that there are a lot of mysteries to be solved and in the end, they realized that all of these are related to the club’s past. 

Those who are into harem anime might be interested in this anime. It is about five identical sisters with contrasting personalities. They have a tutor named Futaro Uesugi who will eventually marry one of them but the mystery is to guess which of the five sisters will be his bride. 

The anime focuses on the Volunteer Service Club. The main protagonist is an apathetic student whose life changes when he and the president of the club, Yukino Yukinoshita meet. Their clashing personalities will make the series full of exciting scenes that will make fans enjoy the show. 

Haruhi Fujioka breaks a valuable vase one day that made her join the host club. This particular club is comprised of handsome boys who entertain women. What makes this series entertaining to watch is that Haruhi is always mistaken as a boy by almost all of the characters. 

Also known as From Me to You, Kimi ni Todoke centers on Kuronuma Sawako who is popularly known as Sadako at her school. With this, her school life is miserable and lonely but things changed when she met the most popular boy in school named Kazehaya. He became interested in her and their story began. 

It is a light high school anime that focuses on six girls who like to take nonsensical challenges. They mirror the lives of normal high school students who enjoy annoying each other and daydream about their future. Viewers will follow their journey until they graduate. 

Kokoro Connect adds a twist to its story by having the five members of the Cultural Research Club switch their bodies without any reason. The members tried everything they can to find out the cause and eventually realizes their deep feelings and secrets. 

Nichijou adds a splash of insane scenes in this anime that makes it entertaining to watch. All of the characters have their own unique personalities and looks! Fans will be entertained to follow their story, specially Yuuko who likes to react to her surroundings. 

Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun centers on Chiyo Sakura who likes Umetarou Nozaki. Since he is oblivious to her feelings, he made her one of his manga assistants with their other classmates. The series is full of comedic scenes that will bring laughter to the viewers. 

From the title itself, fans will get the idea that the series is a harem anime. It focuses on Ryu Yamada who knocks over one of his classmates on the stairs, and they unexpectedly swap bodies. Since that kind of premise is familiar to some, Yamada-Kun and The Seven Witches adds an interesting element to the story by making the seven girls witches, and every time Yamada kisses one of them, he gets to borrow their powers.  

Silver Spoon takes a unique approach to school-set up anime by placing its characters in an agricultural high school. Here, students will learn practical tasks like cleaning manure and riding horses. It gives fans a different take on the usual high school setup and teaches viewers the importance of respecting animals. 

The series is about Sakuta and Mai, his senpai who he found in the library wearing a bunny girl outfit. The two fell in love after Sakuta helped Mai with her adolescent syndrome and since then, they try to help their classmates who have the same syndrome. There are different stories in each episode about new characters that will help Sakuta and Mai’s characters develop as well. 

If there is an agricultural high school, there is also a high school in the afterlife. In Angel Beats!, the students are already dead, and they must learn to do away with all the attachments they have that are preventing them from moving on. Otonashi was invited by Yuri to join the SSS or Shinda Sekai Sensen. 

After The Rain tells a story about Akira Tachibana, a high schooler and her divorced middle-aged boss. She got an injury that forbid her from running track and along the way, she fell for her boss to heal. The series can boost one’s self-confidence and help in one’s healing. 

Sorata Kanda is the series’ protagonist. He wanted to escape Sakura Hall dorm because of its residents but his decision changed when he met Mashiro Shiina. She doesn’t leave him alone and over time, the two of them became close and Sorata doesn’t want to leave anymore. 

Another school anime that has a unique twist is Kakegurui. It is about an elite school where all the students come from families of business owners and basically wealthy parents. They are enrolled to learn about gambling. Those who are interested in roulette, blackjack, and poker will surely enjoy this anime.
