Where Does Spider-Man Live?

We often see Spidey referring to himself as 'your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.' But where is Spider-Man’s neighborhood?

Spider-Man stops crime all over New York and is not locked to one neighborhood.

As we all know, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuing to grow and expand, there is a slim chance of our superheroes ever simply living in one area their whole life.

With the multiverse, Spider-Man has lived in places beyond Queens, but for now, this article simply takes on where he lives canonically in the Marvel Comics, as well as in the MCU, and the Spider-Verse.

Canonically, Where Does Spider-Man Live?

As revealed in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, there is such a thing called ‘Canon Events’ where every reality that Peter Parker belongs in on the timeline has to have significance in his progress as Spidey.

In this case, we have always known (and seen) Peter Parker living at 20 Ingram Street in Queens, Forest Hills, New York City. When he grows old enough, he then attends Midtown high school and then Empire State University (ESU).
When Marvel Legend Stan Lee was writing Spider-Man, he had never specified the exact location of the superhero apart from revealing a Forest Hills resident. It was only added years later by writer David Michelinie.

Peter Moved in with Harry Osborn At One Point

The Marvel Comics often depicted Harry Osborn as the designated best friend of Peter Parker.

Peter Parker and Harry Osborn have always had a somewhat peculiar relationship with one another. It would always begin with Harry's jealousy of Peter due to the attention he receives from their classmate, Gwen Stacey.

As for the film version though, Harry's jealousy often rooted more in getting the attention of his father, Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin.

This was quite the case in both of Sony's Spider-Man movies: Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man Trilogy and Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man Duology.

However, we have yet to see (or may never) the MCU debut Tom Holland's 'designated' Harry Osborn. He does have Ned, though, who is the opposite of Harry Osborn in being the supportive friend Peter always needed.

Although, since the Marvel franchise connected Sony's Spider-Man into the MCU, then Harry Osborn's existence is canon on the big screens in one whole universe.

Tobey Maguire’s original Spider-Man trilogy most likely set the future of the Spider-Man franchise in the cinematic universe (even before the MCU collaboration happened).

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy was shot in New York, but in the ‘real’ Queens. To be more specific, Maguire’s Peter Parker lived in 8839 69th Road between Metropolitan Avenue and Sybilla Street in Forest Hills, central Queens.

As for The Amazing Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfield, his Peter Parker also lived in Queens, New York City under the care of, you guessed it, Uncle Ben Parker and Aunt May.

Peter’s neighborhood is jokingly referenced in Captain America: Civil War when Spider-Man and Captain America are battling at the airport.

When Cap asked Spidey where he lived, Peter Parker didn't hesitate to say he lived in Queens, before Steve answered that he, on the other hand, lived in Brooklyn.

Later during the post-credits sequence, when Aunt May asks Peter who hit him, Peter simply responds with “Steve from Brooklyn!”

Specifically, Tom’s Peter Parker lives one street away from Tobey Maguire’s filming.

Where Miles Morales Lives in the Spider-Verse Franchise

Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), on the other hand, is a different case.

Considering he was not supposed to be a Spider-Man in the first place, and the fact that he comes from a different reality (Earth-1610), Morales is a Hispanic, African-American teenager who lived in Kings, New York City, also known as Brooklyn.

Even so, as Peter Parker represents Queens, Miles represents Brooklyn wherein Miles likes to rap and hang out with peers with different cultural backgrounds, which kind of opposes Peter Parker’s tendency to be a loner sticking to one best friend and getting bullied for being a ‘nerd.’

Miles’ backstory doesn’t technically surround him on getting bullied, but rather the awkward stage of puberty of liking a girl from his new school and at the same time, having to deal with growing hormones as he wants to pursue Spider-Gwen into the Spider-Verse.

Not to mention, Miles' parents are alive. At least, until we see how Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse treats them according to Miguel O'Hara's plan on ensuring the 'canon event' losing Miles' dad takes place.

Why Peter Parker Lives With Uncle Ben and Aunt May

We grew up watching Peter Parker live with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in many, many iterations, so this begs the question, where did his ACTUAL parents go?

Peter Parker’s parents are Richard Parker (Ben Parker’s younger brother) and Mary Fitzpatrick, who, in one reality, were working for the CIA when they fell in love.

Canonically, Peter Parker lost his parents by plane crash, not long after giving birth to him.

The plane crash happened due to the Red Skull (Albert Malik) confronting Peter’s parents.

In another reality, though, instead of working for the CIA, Richard was a biologist who was partners with Eddie Brock Sr. While working to find a cure in the form of a body suit, Richard and Brock ended up getting killed along with their wives in a plane crash (again).

In that reality, Peter was taken in under Ben and May’s wings at the ripe age of six along with Eddie Brock Jr. Of course, this leads to growing up with and befriending the symbiote we know today: Venom.

As for the cinematic version of this Peter Parker background, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man got his parents referenced in the trilogy, while the MCU has not.

Richard Parker, on the other hand, managed to get mentioned in The Amazing Spider-Man films.

If it weren’t for Uncle Ben, we wouldn’t have gotten the chance to hear his famous last words to Peter on his dying breath, “With great power, comes great responsibility.”

How Living in Queens, New York Shaped Peter Parker

As you might be well aware, where a child grows up affects his teenagehood and adulthood. In this case, Peter Parker living in Queens had already set his fate since he was a child (yes, even the spider bite).

And it’s not just the lowkey hustle and bustle of commuting stations instead of the air pollution and solitary tendencies of living in cities, but rather how living in Queens his whole life depicted his eventual identity to be the ‘friendly neighborhood Spidey.’

Queens may be living off near Manhattan and New York, but the area is definitely different compared to the emergence of apartment buildings.

Because in Queens, you get a homely atmosphere where you can (as portrayed in Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy) hear your neighbors’ conversations and easily spy on what they’re doing, a few centimeters away from your backyard.

It also definitely helped in shaping Spider-Man’s fascination with people-watching, which of course led to his love for photography.

Not to mention, being extremely kind, gentle, patient, and humble of a person could lead you to achieving great things, bearing the responsibilities on your back once you gain your Spidey powers.
