Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is a sequel and spin-off to Naruto. Instead of following the journey of Naruto, the new series follows his son, Boruto. The spin-off tackles the life after the great war has ended and Naruto finally became the Hokage. The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016 before moving to V Jump in 2019.
The anime, on the other hand, made its premiere in 2017 on TV Tokyo. As of January 2017, a million copies of the manga were shipped by Shueisha. In 2018, the English dub of the anime was released on Adult Swim’s Toonami. The manga and anime were followed by a series of light novels and video games.
The Boruto manga was well-loved by fans. In fact, it appeared as a best seller in Japan and North America. Reviewers and critics applauded the manga and the anime for its narrative and fight scenes.
While fans noticed some differences between the manga and anime, in terms of the story, both are essentially the same. The manga focuses on the important events while the anime added scenes and arcs to delve deeper into the story and the characters.
As mentioned, the manga is concise and does not spend time on minor characters as much unlike the anime. In fact, the anime added characters that are not seen in the manga yet. Other notable differences are the length of the fights and added story arcs.
Which medium should new fans refer to? It will depend on the preference of the fan. There are various reasons to read manga or watch anime. If the fan prefers to get the recent update on the story itself, he or she should turn to the manga as it is ahead of the anime. But if the fan prefers to see the characters in animation then anime is better.
Either way, both tell the journey of Boruto. Naruto fans will also see what happened to their loved characters by following the manga or anime. Speaking of Boruto’s journey, get the latest update on the story here.
