Marvel fans across the world are currently scrolling through Disney Plus just looking, hoping to see a glimpse of their favorite Marvel Mercenary. But why is it that we can’t watch our "Merc with a Mouth” when he is so clearly a part of The Marvel Universe?
Disney and Fox
Before Disney bought Marvel Entertainment back in 2009, Marvel outsourced its films and gave other studios the film rights to particular characters, this included giving the X-men and Deadpool characters to 20th Century Fox.
However, fans were excited in 2020 when Disney announced its news of acquiring Fox and therefore being able to add the X-Men films to Disney Plus and eventually to The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Naturally, people thought that Deadpool, which is from the same universe as the X-Men, would also be appearing.
Since the release of the Deadpool film in 2016, It didn’t take long for Deadpool to become one of the publics’ favorite Marvel characters. As the first R-rated Marvel film, the producers at Fox were nervous about how well the film would be received among critics. However, the film ended up being the most successful superhero film from 20th Century Fox, beating all X-Men films and it is still the third highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time (beaten only by Deadpool 2 and Joker).
However, due to its Rated R rating and Disney being a family channel, it seems they have refrained from adding “the naughtier superhero” to its list of streamable movies. But who knows, this may change depending on its high demand.
Where can I watch Deadpool?
Despite the first Deadpool film not being available on Disney Plus. You may find Deadpool 2 on Disney Plus depending on your location (e.g available in the UK). But fear not, because depending on where you are in the world it’s still possible to get them on different streaming services.
The first Deadpool film can currently be found on Netflix and Deadpool 2 can be found on Disney Plus.
