In February, Marvel announced yet another massive overhaul of its entire publishing line, complete with new creative teams, new series, and, of course, shiny new Issue #1s. If that sounds at all familiar, perhaps it’s because Marvel has been employing this same tactic practically every year since 2012, with the most recent example being 2017’s Marvel Legacy initiative, which returned a number of series back to their original legacy numbering.
Still, just because Marvel has developed something of a track record for annual relaunches doesn’t mean there’s no reason to be excited for what Fresh Start has to offer. Here’s every confirmed series for Marvel’s Fresh Start, and be sure to check back in with Epicstream, as we’ll continue to update the list as new titles are announced!
Creative Team: Jason Aaron, Ed McGuinness
The flagship series of Fresh Start, Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness’ Avengers, will reunite Marvel’s Big Three – Iron Man/Tony Stark, Captain America/Steve Rogers, and Thor Odinson – for the first time since pre-Secret Wars. However, they won’t be alone, as the team’s roster will also include Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, She-Hulk, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel. It’s a good thing, too, because Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are sure to have their hands full when they’re forced to save the world from the impending threat of the Celestials.
Avengers #1 arrives May 2.
Creative Team: Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman
Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote, and a threat that’s one thousand years in the making – that’s what’s at the heart of the all-new Venom series, by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman. “Things are not great for Eddie as our story begins,” Cates told ComicBook.com. “Something has happened to his other that….well, I don’t want to spoil too much, but for the first time in a very long time, Eddie is scared of his own shadow. Something is changing between them. And it’s…disturbing, to say the least. But I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s a symbiote-focused story really. The greatest Venom stories, to me at least, are a mixture of the alien outside and the human inside.”
Venom #1 arrives May 9.
Creative Team: Ta-Nehisi Coates, Daniel Acuña
First teased in Marvel Legacy #1, readers will be transported to the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda in the pages of Black Panther, by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Daniel Acuña. “I can’t emphasize enough how clean of an entry point this is for new readers,” editor Wil Moss told Newsarama. “Readers are going to be learning about this mysterious ‘Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda’ right alongside T’Challa, so everyone is going to be on the same page. And, oh, man, is Daniel Acuña delivering the goods! He ‘gets’ the character of Black Panther like no other, and his designs for the Intergalactic Empire are … well, they’re out of this world!”
Black Panther #1 arrives May 23.
