Every Confirmed Series for Marvel’s Fresh Start

In February, Marvel announced yet another massive overhaul of its entire publishing line, complete with new creative teams, new series, and, of course, shiny new Issue #1s. If that sounds at all familiar, perhaps it’s because Marvel has been employing this same tactic practically every year since 2012, with the most recent example being 2017’s Marvel Legacy initiative, which returned a number of series back to their original legacy numbering.

Still, just because Marvel has developed something of a track record for annual relaunches doesn’t mean there’s no reason to be excited for what Fresh Start has to offer. Here’s every confirmed series for Marvel’s Fresh Start, and be sure to check back in with Epicstream, as we’ll continue to update the list as new titles are announced!

  1. Avengers

Creative Team: Jason Aaron, Ed McGuinness

The flagship series of Fresh Start, Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness’ Avengers, will reunite Marvel’s Big Three – Iron Man/Tony Stark, Captain America/Steve Rogers, and Thor Odinson – for the first time since pre-Secret Wars. However, they won’t be alone, as the team’s roster will also include Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, She-Hulk, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel. It’s a good thing, too, because Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are sure to have their hands full when they’re forced to save the world from the impending threat of the Celestials.

    Avengers #1 arrives May 2.

  2. Venom

Creative Team: Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman

Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote, and a threat that’s one thousand years in the making – that’s what’s at the heart of the all-new Venom series, by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman. “Things are not great for Eddie as our story begins,” Cates told ComicBook.com. “Something has happened to his other that….well, I don’t want to spoil too much, but for the first time in a very long time, Eddie is scared of his own shadow. Something is changing between them. And it’s…disturbing, to say the least. But I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s a symbiote-focused story really. The greatest Venom stories, to me at least, are a mixture of the alien outside and the human inside.”

    Venom #1 arrives May 9.

  3. Black Panther

Creative Team: Ta-Nehisi Coates, Daniel Acuña

First teased in Marvel Legacy #1, readers will be transported to the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda in the pages of Black Panther, by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Daniel Acuña. “I can’t emphasize enough how clean of an entry point this is for new readers,” editor Wil Moss told Newsarama. “Readers are going to be learning about this mysterious ‘Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda’ right alongside T’Challa, so everyone is going to be on the same page. And, oh, man, is Daniel Acuña delivering the goods! He ‘gets’ the character of Black Panther like no other, and his designs for the Intergalactic Empire are … well, they’re out of this world!”

Black Panther #1 arrives May 23.

  4. Immortal Hulk

Creative Team: Al Ewing, Joe Bennett

Al Ewing and Joe Bennett are bringing Bruce Banner back into the fold of the Marvel Universe, and, as the name Immortal Hulk implies, there’s no keeping this Green Goliath down. Spinning out of the events of “No Surrender,” the series will explore a whole new dynamic between Banner and the Hulk, with a decidedly horror-fueled tone.

Immortal Hulk #1 arrives June 6.

  5. Doctor Strange

Creative Team: Mark Waid, Jesús Saiz

The Sorcerer Supreme’s Fresh Start makeover comes to us courtesy of Mark Waid and Jesús Saiz, who plan to take the character to deep space, with a little help from Tony Stark, after he loses his connection to the Earth's arcane power. “I’ve been a Strange fan forever,” Waid said in a statement, “but I’ve never been lucky enough to write an extended run featuring the good doctor. Along with editor Nick Lowe, we’ve come up with some new and very unexpected places to take Stephen Strange in the Marvel Universe — starting with the stars. When Strange’s magic suddenly exhausts itself, he’ll have to travel off-earth to recharge his batteries.”

Doctor Strange #1 arrives June 6.

  6. Thor

Creative Team: Jason Aaron, Mike Del Mundo

Fans have certainly enjoyed Jason Aaron’s run on The Mighty Thor, with Jane Foster filling the role of Goddess of Thunder, but with Fresh Start, the Odinson will once again reclaim his mantle (as well as artist Mike Del Mundo). However, he’ll also have to reclaim the artifacts of Asgard, which have been scattered across Earth in his absence. And if that’s not bad enough, he’ll have to deal with the Unstoppable Juggernaut, as well. “On the one hand, I still feel like I’m writing the same Thor story that began six years ago in the pages of Thor: God of Thunder #1,” Aaron told Marvel.com. “But at the same time, God of Thunder had a very different look and feel and focus than Jane Foster’s story.”

    Thor #1 arrives June 13

  7. Ant-Man and the Wasp (6-issue miniseries)

Creative Team: Mark Waid, Javier Garron

Just in time for the arrival of their big-screen-counterparts, Ant-Man and the Wasp are slated to headline their own miniseries, courtesy of Mark Waid and Javier Garron. Trapped in the microverse, Scott Lang’s only chance of escape is Nadia Pym. “The pace and tone of the story is crazy fast and crazy fun, so by the end of Ant-Man & The Wasp #1 has already happened a lot of stuff,” Garron told Newsarama. “You could even say there are two full adventures in the first issue, which I feel as a reader like a treat. I fear to give away too much. But let’s say there are light speed chases, a whole new species already in danger, an experiment gone wrong and quite a lot of arguing! I was able to use from very classic page layouts to really wild compositions, a lot of face expressions and I had my first experience drawing fireworks. Was that too vague?”

Ant-Man and the Wasp #1 arrives June 6.

  8. Tony Stark: Iron Man

Creative Team: Dan Slott, Valerio Schiti

After a decade writing The Amazing Spider-Man, Dan Slott will make the jump to Tony Stark: Iron Man, along with artist Valerio Schiti. Returning from the dead is never easy, and it sounds like that will factor heavily into this brand-new series. “As a futurist, Tony Stark thought he had all the answers. But since coming back from the dead, he now sees the Marvel Universe in a whole new light!” Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said in a press release. “How does Iron Man continually evolve and stay relevant in a world where technology advances on a daily basis? Well, Dan Slott, Valerio Schiti and Edgar Delgado are here to answer those questions as they take our Armored Avenger on adventures that push the boundaries comic storytelling and visuals! And Dan writes Tony with such heart…pun intended…we had to put his name in the title.”

Tony Stark: Iron Man #1 arrives June 20.

  9. Captain America

Creative Team: Ta-Nehisi Coates, Leinil Yu

When Ta-Nehisi Coates and Leinil Yu take over on Captain America, Steve Rogers will not only still be dealing with the aftermath of Secret Empire but he’ll also have to deal with a threat known as the Power Elite. “Thus, Captain America is not so much tied to America as it is, but to an America of the imagined past,” Coates wrote in his column for The Atlantic. “In one famous scene, flattered by a treacherous general for his ‘loyalty,’ Rogers—grasping the American flag—retorts, ‘I’m loyal to nothing, general … except the dream.’... And Captain America, the embodiment of a kind of Lincolnesque optimism, poses a direct question for me: Why would anyone believe in The Dream? What is exciting here is not some didactic act of putting my words in Captain America’s head, but attempting to put Captain America’s words in my head.”

Captain America #1 arrives July 4.

  10. The Amazing Spider-Man

Creative Team: Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley

Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley’s run on The Amazing Spider-Man looks to double down on the classic Parker luck, as Spidey will not only face an alien invasion but “A revelation from the past [that] puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships and WHOLE LIFE in jeopardy!” according to the solicitation. “When you get excited to write Spider-Man, it’s because you’re also excited to write Jonah and Aunt May and MJ and Black Cat,” Spencer told ComicBook.com. “You know, just there’s so many incredible characters in this orbit, so getting to play with that cast, getting to make them a big part of our story is key. And I can say pretty much all of your favorites will be making an appearance at some point.”

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 arrives this July.

  11. Life of Captain Marvel (5-issue miniseries)

Creative Team: Margaret Stohl, Carlos Pacheco

Carol Danvers is slated to receive a brand-new origin story in Life of Captain Marvel, by Margaret Stohl and Carlos Pacheco. “This one is especially important to me,” Stohl told ABC News. “I relate to Carol Danvers so personally. And I really wanted to be able to do this and go back in before her movie launches.” According to the synopsis, “When crippling anxiety attacks put her on the sidelines in the middle of a fight, Carol finds herself reliving memories of a life she thought was far behind her. You can't outrun where you're from - and sometimes, you HAVE to go home again. But there are skeletons in Captain Marvel's closet - and what she discovers will change her entire world.”

Life of Captain Marvel #1 arrives July 4.

  12. Ghost Rider (5-issue miniseries)

    Creative Team: Donny Cates, TBA

After being introduced by Donny Cates in Thanos #13 to plenty of fanfare, the all-new Cosmic Ghost Rider is set to headline his very own five-issue miniseries. No artist or release date has been announced yet, but expect to hear more on this hellish Frank Castle from the far future soon.

  13. Multiple Man (5-issue miniseries)

Creative Team: Matthew Rosenberg, Andy MacDonald

Jamie Madrox may have been killed from exposure to the Terrigen Mist in 2016’s Death of X, but even he’s getting a Fresh Start, thanks to Matthew Rosenberg and Andy MacDonald. “Our book starts off with someone finding Jamie very not dead,” Rosenberg told ComicBook.com. “So the mystery of why he isn’t dead and how to save himself is a big driving force of the story.”

Multiple Man #1 arrives this July.

  14. Quicksilver: No Surrender (5-issue miniseries)

Creative Team: Saladin Ahmed, Eric Nguyen

Spinning out of the Avengers’ “No Surrender” storyline is an all-new five-issue miniseries featuring Marvel’s resident speedster, Quicksilver, by Saladin Ahmed, Eric Nguyen. “I don’t want to say too much because of spoilers, but at some point in ‘No Surrender’ Pietro finds himself in a kind of frozen reality,” Ahmed told CBR. “He could do that for little stretches when he went into his super speed, but now he can’t get out of that. So he’s sort of stuck wandering a frozen Earth. Even though he’s surrounded by billions of people they’re all out of sync with him. He quickly discovers, though, that there is something else out there; something malign that seems to be taking victims from among the frozen people around him.”

Quicksilver: No Surrender #1 arrives May 16.

  15. Deadpool

Creative Team: Skottie Young, Nic Klein

Skottie Young and Nic Klein will helm the Merc with a Mouth’s Fresh Start with Deadpool #1, which will return Wade Wilson to his old mercenary-for-hire ways. “I like to write stories that move fast and keep you on the ride,” Young told Polygon. “And I like to try and make you laugh while someone his getting their arm broken or head exploded. hahaha. Similar to my run on Rocket, I like doing shorter stories and have threads that weave in and out.”

    Deadpool #1 arrives this June.

  16. The Sentry

Creative Team: Jeff Lemire, Kim Jacinto

After being reintroduced to the Marvel Universe in last December’s Doctor Strange #382, the Superman pastiche known as the Sentry will headline his very own series, written by Jeff Lemire and drawn by Kim Jacinto. “The Sentry is a fascinating character,” Lemire told ComicBook.com. “I absolutely loved the original Sentry series by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee when it first came out, so I jumped at the chance to write the character. You cannot have The Sentry without the Void. But what I was very conscious of was not simply retelling the same stories that had been told in the past with Sentry and Void. I want to see their relationship and their characters evolve and go in new directions.”

The Sentry #1 arrives this June.

  17. X-23

Creative Team:  Mariko Tamaki, Juann Cabal

We've known her as X-23, All-New Wolverine, and this July, Laura Kinney will be will resume her X-23 identity once again. “I am so psyched to have the opportunity to write for X-23. How often do you get to write a comic that has its own iconic sound effect?” Tamaki said. "This is a story about being in the very weird kind of family that someone like Laura/X-23 finds herself in. It’s about what it means to wrestle with legacy and identity when you were created to be a weapon and not someone with a birthday and a sister. I love writing these characters, I love the ferocity that comes with them, and I love the supporting cast we’ve put together for these issues.”

    X-23 #1 arrives this July.
