5 Reasons Why My Hero Academia is Overrated

My Hero Academiaor Boku no Hero Academia is one of the emerging anime in the industry. It is a Japanese superhero manga series that follows the life of Izuku Midoriya, a quirkless teenage boy who wanted to be a hero just like his idol, All Might. After gaining his idol's quirk called All for One, Izuku is now on training to be the greatest hero of all time. 

Since its release, the show got good feedback and is now gaining popularity all over the world. If fans were to be asked WHY is this series popular, they will surely give a lot of reasons like concept and interesting characters. Despite receiving so much love from fans, some consider My Hero Academia an overrated anime. Here are 5 reasons why:

1. Deku is an overrated protagonist

Avid anime fans are most likely exposed to characters like Deku – a helpless boy who becomes strong enough to help other people. The way Deku’s character was written was overrated and typical. His drive to become a hero was just because he admired All Might, which is kind of shallow as compared with other protagonists. 

2. The characters are not developing

All the characters are just moving based on Deku’s progress, and the sad part is that he isn’t really developing. While there are some points where some characters are growing like Todoroki overcoming his hatred towards his father, there isn’t much going on for the others, most especially Deku. Other characters mostly come and go as if they are just placed on the scene for added elements. 

3. The plot is kind of typical

The first impression that you will get once you watch this anime is that it gives a vibe of, “you don’t need a quirk to be a hero”. But after some time, the plot becomes the same as other shounen anime where the protagonists become the most powerful hero out there, especially after Deku gets All Might’s power. There isn’t something new about the plot and that makes the anime overrated. 

4. Villains are not interesting

Sure, the villains have intriguing quirks but in terms of personality, the villains are not entertaining. Most shows have at least one villain that would capture their attention and that’s what My Hero Academia lacked. Overhaul is a good villain but he won’t stick unlike other villains from other shows. 

5. The show lacks depth

My Hero Academia lacks depth. While it understandable that fans want Deku to be the greatest hero of all time, what happens next? What are the other things to look forward to? The conflict is still at the base level and once that is achieved, there is nothing left for fans to watch the show. 

My Hero Academia is an interesting anime, and it can actually get your attention with its concept. But there are still a lot of loopholes in this anime, and hopefully, there will be an improvement in the My Hero Academia Season 5.
