Zombieland 2 To Hit Theaters in 2019 With Original Cast

It's been nine years since Ruben Fleischer's post-apocalyptic comedy horror film Zombieland first made its way to cinemas. Now, according to the film's screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Zombieland 2 just might get to hit theaters in time to celebrate the original film's ten year anniversary next year.

Speaking with Vulture to talk about 20th Century Fox's upcoming Deadpool 2, Reese and Wernick let fans know that they can expect the original film's cast to return to Zombieland 2 to celebrate Zombieland's ten year anniversary.

"The hope is that we're shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of '19 release," Wernick said before adding that the original Zombieland cast would return for the sequel.

While news of Zombieland 2 might excite fans, Wernick and Reese say they can't give too many details just yet.

"We are sitting on information that we can't entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon," the screenwriter explained.

Full of levity and gore, the original Zombieland gained a lot of critical and commercial success for a zombie film that wasn't the Dawn of the Dead remake. The original film received a lot of great reviews from critics, with many praising the film for its humor and its timing.

Seeing its success, many would have expected a sequel to pop out sooner, but Reese and Wernick were kept busy with other movies during the past ten years (though god knows the two tried to launch a Zombieland TV show back in 2013 which Amazon declined). Reese and Wernick have written two Deadpool movies, a sequel for G.I. Joe, and a comic book adaptation of Cowboy Ninja Viking.

There isn't that much info on Zombieland 2 just yet but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
