Joss Whedon did a great job directing the first Avengers movie, but it was clear that he was already exhausted by the time he finished working on Age of Ultron. Zack Snyder already has three DC movies under his belt — Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League — and news has just come out that he'll still be directing Justice League 2.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, producer Charles Roven talked about Snyder's place in the DC Cinematic Universe, and he says:
"Each unique film in the DC pantheon is going to be unique because the directors are different except for Zack directing Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the two Justice League movies. Each one of those directors, whether it be David Ayer or Patty Jenkins or James Wan, they are bringing their sensibilities and a different production designer and different costume designer, et cetera. That world building will still be of the same DC Justice League universe, but have its own unique point of view."
With both Man of Steel and BvS getting very divisive reactions from audiences, Snyder has been given some checks in the form of Ben Affleck being signed on as producer. If Justice League turns out to be a flop upon release, it's highly possible that Warner Bros. may want someone else to helm Justice League 2.
I for one, think that Snyder is a great visual director, it's just that he has a problem when it comes to executing a story. Man of Steel just had too many misplaced flashbacks and plotholes, and BvS' plot was annoyingly convoluted. I mean, why kill off Superman in his second movie? Let us build up some sympathy first!
Let's hope Zack Snyder's Justice League doesn't disappoint when it hits theaters Nov. 17.
