Zack Snyder Reveals A Christ Metaphor Between Batman’s Fight With Superman In Dawn of Justice

It looks like the big fight between the DC Extended Universe's Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) and the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actually has a pretty strong religious reference.

Posting on Vero in time for Easter, DCEU director Zack Snyder revealed that the kryptonite spear that Batman used in the film to bring Superman to his knees in Dawn of Justice was actually meant as a reference to the death of Christ on the cross.

Sharing a photo of a painting of Jesus being stabbed by a Roman centurion, Snyder revealed why exactly "with all the technology at his disposal would Batman build a spear" to finish off the Last Son of Krypton.

Though Snyder's been fond of using religious allusions in his DCEU movies, it's interesting to see how much the director tried to liken Superman to the Son of Man. Kal-El's always had some sort of messianic link in older comics and films, but to learn about bold and meaningful allusions in Batman v Superman like the kryptonite spear actually is a pretty pleasant surprise.

What do you think of Snyder's comparisons between Christ and Superman? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
