Yoon Eun Hye recalls how viewers slammed her for not having enough acting experience after getting the lead role in Princess Hours.

One of the iconic K-dramas, the 2006 series stars the 37-year-old actress as Shin Chae Kyung, a bubbly high school student who is set to marry the dashing Crown Prince Lee Shin played by Ju Ji Hoon.


Initially, she was reluctant to get married but was forced to wed the royal due to her debt-ridden family.

From being the commoner to becoming a princess, Shin Chae Kyung struggled to fit in her new world now that she is a royal.

At the time, the rom-com series was such a hit that it had a Thai adaptation.

Yoon Eun Hye Discuss ‘Casting Controversy’ That Happened in Princess Hours

During her appearance in Naver NOW’s Just Come Out the South Korean actress and former Baby Vox talked about her first K-drama appearance and not to mention, her first lead role, Princess Hours.

Yoon Eun Hye recalled the articles saying how she does not suit the role. At the time, netizens would bluntly express their thoughts pointing out that she is far from the webtoon character.

As obtained by KBizoom, the actress spoke about the “casting controversy” and revealed that it was her manager who told her to audition for a certain K-drama.

“I didn’t know what kind of drama I was auditioning for, but I talked about my family story in front of the director,” she said, adding “I came home after spending the whole audition talking about my life. Then it turned out that my life story was similar to that of the character,”

As Yoon Eun Hye explained to host Kang Ho Dong the story behind the controversy, saying that after the drama officials chose her as the female lead despite her “lack of experience” in acting she started to hear negative things about her.

“After that, I started hearing about the casting controversy. But I was like, ‘Why do you judge me without even looking at me?’ I didn’t want to give up, and the thought of wanting to try it was strangely exciting,” he explained.

Fortunately, the casting issues were replaced by high viewership ratings as Princess Hours is among the well-loved dramas at the time.


Despite the challenges she faced during her early years in acting, there’s no denying that the 2006 series with Ju Ji Hoon opened a lot of great opportunities for the actress.

In the same year, Yoon Eun Hye starred in another hit drama The Vineyard Man, followed by her blockbuster team-up with Gong Yoo for Coffee Prince in 2007.

In addition, Yoon Eun Hye is also quite active on Instagram, updating her 434,000 followers with her activities off and on cam.

Yoon Eun Hye mentioned that she was “never asked to come out of the show,” adding “They never made an offer.”

However, Yoo Jae Suk would always bring up the topic, teasing Kim Jong Kook after it was rumored that they dated in the past which she denied in previous interviews.
