Xbox Series X Will Have Backwards Compatibility on Launch Day

Xbox Series X is the next-generation console from Microsoft, with an interesting design that reminds us of a PC and a name that just confuses the hell out of people. We know that this console will be coming out in holiday 2020, along with Sony's PlayStation 5, so it's clear that the next console war will begin soon and Microsoft has revealed their big weapon first.

As if that wasn't enough to interest fans, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed that the new console would be backward-compatible with Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games, which is a magnificent achievement. While Sony fans are more than content with playing their PS4 games on the PS5, the fact that Microsoft followers have more options makes the new Xbox console more rewarding for those that have kept their classic titles.

Here's what Spencer told GameSpot about the Xbox Series X backward-compatibility:

"We wanted to make sure we had that, day one, we could deliver on the compatibility promise, and so I've been playing quite a few [Xbox 360] games on my [Xbox Series X] and Xbox One games on the [Xbox Series X] and that's just to ensure that we can be there day one."

Though we're all looking forward to launch day games like Halo Infinite, fans have a number of great games to play from their Xbox One library. Whether it's third-party titles like Nier: Automata or The Witcher 3 or exclusives like Gears 5, Xbox One fans are going to be really happy about this.
