X-Men Writer Jonathan Hickman Says He's Trying to Get Fired but Marvel Won't Do It

Jonathan Hickman's X-Men run, which includes his work on House of X and Powers of X, has been both acclaimed and controversial. Hickman's ideas for the X-Men are huge, from giving them a mutant island, to giving them a permanent way to escape death, it's clear that this isn't your daddy's X-Men anymore. Fans have been divided thus far, with some loving the extreme changes while others feel like our favorite mutants are being rewritten as elitists who think they're better than everyone.

It seems like Hickman is responding to the people who think the latter, telling fans who want him fired that he has actually been trying to get himself removed but Marvel just lets him be. This is obviously a joke, hinting that Hickman is going to take even more risks with the X-Men and we can't wait to see what this madman has planned.

Funnily enough, X-Men editor Jordan White agrees with Hickman, telling fans that he wishes the writer was kidding. The writer already shocked everyone when he revealed that death means nothing to the X-Men now but he also recently killed Charles Xavier in the first issue of X-Force, which no one expected.

While Hickman has promised to clean up his "mess" once he's done with the X-Men, this fan is hoping that Marvel incorporates these changes for future reference. I know having the X-Men as a metaphor for civil rights and social issues will always be what they are known for but this new direction is just too interesting and satisfying to not enjoy.

Hickman's House of X and Powers of X will be released in hardcover later this year. The first two issues of his X-Men comic book are available now, with the third coming out next week.
