Wonder Woman proved that audiences were ready for women-lead superhero movies, and after many unsuccessful attempts, it seems that Red Sonja is finally gearing up for another deubt on the big screen. News has it that the film has already found a screenwriter for Sonja in the form of X-Men: First Class' Ashley Edward Miller.
Miller told Deadline:
"It's an exciting opportunity to faithfully adapt the amazing Hyborian world Robert E. Howard created, and inject it with Sonja's intelligence, ferocity, and fearless humanity. I want people to love Sonja the way I love her, and walk out of the theater understanding why she's so popular and enduring. Sonja is an icon."
Besides First Class, Miller has also written the script for MCU's Thor as well as several episodes of Fringe and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. He's also currently working on a script for the reboot of Big Trouble in Little China.
The last live action Red Sonja movie actually came out back in '85, and it's pretty much in the same vein as Conan the Barbarian; even Schwarzenegger had a role in that movie. With the latest Conan reboot not doing too well, hopefully Miller has something more interesting in mind for Red Sonja. I'm curious how comic-accurate her costume will turn out on the big screen.
No release date has been announced for the Red Sonja movie.
