X-Men: Dark Phoenix Won't Be Too 'Intergalactic'

X-Men: Dark Phoenix might have just turned off some fans, now that director Simon Kinberg announced that the film would be more "grounded." Considering how the film will be set in space, a first for the X-Men film franchise, hearing that the new installment won't go too crazy is disappointing.

Kinberg made the comment in the most recent issue of Total Film (via X-Men Films), since he feels that the superhero team is known for being "human." Admittedly, the quote about grounding the group is short, so the director might have more tricks up his sleeve.

Fans are hoping Kinberg does the source material justice, since many consider The Dark Phoenix Saga to be the best X-Men story ever made. Moments from the story include Wolverine rescuing the X-Men from the Hellfire Club, the debuts of Kitty Pryde and Dazzler, and the tragic death of Jean Grey. The film has a lot to live up to,

It will be interesting to see how Kinberg does, since X-Men: Dark Phoenix is his directorial debut. Prior to this, Kinberg has been writing various X-Men movies, including the acclaimed Days of Future Past, as well as the mediocre Apocalypse. With no trailer or footage to look at, fans can only hope that the film does the source material justice.
