Deadpool featured some of the best marketing tactics to keep fans interested in the movie even after its release. Well, the X-Men: Apocalypse marketing team may be doing something better.
We live in an age where people use and look at handheld devices more than any other device, gadget, or even object in their surroundings. The people behind Apocalypse recognizes this so to step up promotions and get people's attention, they are releasing a new app that will offer hardcore fans some exclusive content.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has teamed up with mobile startup Victorious to gather a "community" of X-Men fans together through an app that provides them with the following:
> Exclusive content every Friday noon PST
> Chat with other fans
> Get updated with community events
> Get X-Men: Apocalypse giveaways
> Join an exclusive contest via the app where fans can create and post videos explaining what their abilities would be if they were mutants. (100 fans with the most followers from followers of the app will win giveaways, while the Top 5 will be given the opportunity to attend the early screening of X-Men: Apocalypse whilst getting other prizes in the process.)
This isn't the first time that a superhero-related property has attempted to pique people's interests via an app, so this move might not exactly top that of Deadpool's marketing. However, for hardcore fans, it's a welcome addition to the movie itself, not to mention a pretty awesome pastime while waiting for the film's release on May 18.
Storyline:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
