Female wrestlers paid tribute to DC superheroines during Saturday's Backlash competition in Richmond, Virginia. This competition was an elimination match for the honor of competing in World Wrestling Entertainment Inc's first ever "Smackdown Live! Women's Champion" event. Two of the competitors, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Bella, decided to wear some comic book-style costumes for the occasion.

Alexa Bliss has a history of competing in comic book themed outfits, having previously worn an Iron Man costume. For this competition, she took inspiration from the perky villain/antihero Harley Quinn. She sported a flashy pink and blue outfit with pink-tipped blonde pigtails. You can see it on Instagram:

The look is a deliberate reference Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movie. Bliss makes this clear with her "#jokesonyou" hastag. It's well known that Harley Quinn is the Joker's paramour, so the tag is a nod to that.

Meanwhile, Nikki Bella went for a more classic superhero look. She wore a star spangled outfit similar to Wonder Woman's for the contest. She made her love of the Amazing Amazon clear in her tweet about the outfit:

Sadly, neither woman ended up triumphing in the pay-per-view event on Saturday, Becky Lynch ended up being the winner. But while these women lost, they did it in style!

I think these outfits are neat and hope to see more wrestlers in superheroic gear. What do you think?
