Wonder Woman Director Actually Pitched A Romeo And Juliet Story For Thor 2

With generally positive advanced screening reviews, there's a lot of hype building up for Wonder Woman and everyone's especially excited to see Gal Gadot to return to the big screen as Diana Prince in the DC Extended Universe's first female-led comicbook movie directed by Patty Jenkins.

However, before Jenkins worked on Wonder Woman, the director used to work with Marvel, developing Thor 2 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, Jenkins left the project in the hands of Alan Taylor who had worked on Game of Thrones and while Thor: Dark World isn't really a fan favorite, a lot of viewers still enjoyed the film.

Now, before the release of Wonder Woman, Jenkins reveals in an interview with BuzzFeed what her treatment for Thor 2 would have been like had she stayed on with Marvel – a Romeo and Juliet type of movie.

"I pitched them that I wanted to do Romeo and Juliet. I wanted Jane to be stuck on Earth and Thor to be stuck where he is. And Thor to be forbidden to come and save Jane because Earth doesn't matter. And then by coming to save her... they end up discovering that Malekith is hiding the dark energy inside of Earth because he knows that Odin doesn't care about Earth, and so he's using Odin's disinterest in Earth to trick him."

"And so it was like, I wanted it to be a grand [movie] based on Romeo and Juliet... a war between the gods and the earthlings, and Thor saves the day and ends up saving Earth."

While it seems like a pretty interesting spin, Jenkins admits why she ended up leaving Thor 2.

"I don't think I could have made a good movie out of Thor 2 because I wasn't the right director. And I don't think I would have been in the running for Wonder Woman as a result. And that's one of the reasons why I'm glad I didn't do it because I could have made a great Thor if I could have done the story that I was wanting to do. But I don't think I was the right person to make a great Thor out of the story they wanted to do."

DC fans must be pretty glad too. With a rough start last year after the release of Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad, the DCEU needed someone like Jenkins to work her magic. Now with Wonder Woman on the way, it seems like things might actually be turning up for DC.

Wonder Woman hits cinemas on June 2.
