Will Rey Lose Her Swordfighting Hand in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

One Star Wars: The Last Jedi fan theory holds that Rey (Daisy Ridley) is the daughter of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). She does seem to be the best candidate to follow in his footsteps since his own nephew Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) turned to the Dark Side. Star Wars YouTuber Mike Zeroh stretches that connection even further by inferring that Rey will lose a hand or an arm in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Apparently, one source has leaked to Zeroh that Ridley has been seen on set wearing a green-screen device on her hand. Green-screen devices are placed on actors who will go through some CGI transformation. If only one body part is affected, such as an arm, then the CGI will just work its wonders on that part and nothing else.

Zeroh thinks that that green-screen device is a giveaway to Rey's following another Skywalker tradition: the loss of their swordfighting hand in a critical conflict. It might also seem like a baptism of fire of some sort. Luke's amputation by Darth Vader in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back signified his coming of age. Annakin's loss of his in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and replacing it with a mechanical arm were a subtle clue of his walking down the path to darkness.

Family connections seem to be one major theme in The Last Jedi. Even the dangerous if doomed Fettsmight be experiencing a resurrection. Zeroh asks: Will Rey experience that same baptism of fire as she embraces her heritage as a Skywalker and/or as a Jedi?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaacs. It will premiere on December 15, 2017.
