Why John Williams Wants To Score Star Wars: Episode VIII

John Williams may have scored every Star Wars film that has been released since 1977, and fans may find it hard to imagine anyone else scoring the saga, but Williams' Star Wars scoring days are bound to end sooner or later.

It has certainly begun with the first Star WarsAnthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will be scored by Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat. However, it would seem like the 84-year-old legendary composer isn't ready to part ways with the franchise any time soon. While his history with the franchise is the most likely reason for his desire to score Episode VIII, apparently, it's none other than Rey actress Daisy Ridley who's drawing him in.

In a recent interview with Variety, Williams was eventually asked about Episode VIII. Here's what he had to say:

If I can do it, I certainly will. I told Kathy Kennedy I'm happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn't want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.

This echoes his answer in a previous forum where he was asked about the possibility of scoring for the saga again. However, at the time, the composer didn't mention Ridley.

Williams isn't the only one impressed with Ridley's work. Even The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams was so mind-blown with the 24-year-old English actress' intense audition for the seventh Star Wars film, that he said it was "unbelievable." In fact, he's so impressed that he's even cast Ridley for his sci-fi film Kolma. It's not entirely surprising why Williams wants to score Episode VIII because of the actress. Well, if she's his reason, then he'll probably return for Episode IX, and we're definitely not arguing.

Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
