Squid Game left one lingering question to viewers: why did Gi-hun dye his hair red?

After going through nerve-wracking and traumatic games, Lee Jung Jae's character Gi-Hun became the ultimate victor of the whopping prize money. As an unwilling winner out of 456 players, the character went home alive but untouched the $38 million in his account.

Gi-hun only snapped again after finding out that the oldest participant in the game, Il-Nam (Player 001), was the mastermind behind the tragic games.

From there, Gi-hun seemingly began to apply changes in his life, and one of which was dying his hair red.

A YouTuber recently uploaded a hair-raising video explaining why the character chose red as his desired hair color.

The video, titled, Interpretation of Squid Game's ending (spoilers are included), revealed that the color served as a strong symbol after everything that happened in the character's life. Minhoaurs mentioned the last scene where Il Nam asked Gi-hun to play another game with him.

"In this game, while Il Nam said the human's natural personalities are ugly and never change, the main character Ki Hun still believed in other people till the end," he said.

When he won the game, Gi-hun gained confidence in humanity again, that he ended up changing his hair color.

Internet users agreed to the YouTuber's explanation, adding how the color red could remind people about having a warm heart. The color also served as the opposite of the players' green clothes in the game.

Although he found hope and expressed his beliefs through his hair color, Gi-hun seemingly did it for something else.

Another theory suggested that the red color is a proclamation of victory and a warning toward the titular character's enemies.

"From what I know the red hair could be a symbolism thing. When Gi hun first encountered the train guy, he had a blue cap on, and the blue also represents the player. Now at the end, he now has red hair and presumably will come back in season 2 as a mask person," one suggested.

But in the literary industry, the color red symbolizes anger and strong emotions. Thus, it truly fits for Gi-hun, who would surely plot revenge against the game masters.
