Why Dan Aykroyd Thinks the New Ghostbusters is Awesome

Paul Feig's Ghostbusters is arguably one of the most controversial films with a release schedule this year. When the the movie's first trailer was released, the updated comedy received mixed reactions from fans, but most of it had been backlash.

Paul Feig has weighed in on those "bullies" and Sony's Marketing President gave his two cents on the movie's negative reception prior to its release saying the "people talking" comprise only a "small percentage" of the "people viewing."

Needless to say, they believe the movie will do great at the box office despite the criticisms, and Dan Aykroyd, star of the original, agrees with them.

The 63-year-old actor took to Facebook on Sunday to share his thoughts about the movie after seeing an advanced screening.

Aykroyd not only thinks of the cast as brilliant, but his comments made it appear like the new one is better than the original. In part, he said:

Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films.
I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!

There are many fans who already expressed their disagreement with Aykroyd's statement, but it's worth noting that the actor both starred in and wrote the first two Ghostbusters films, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. He's also making a cameo and executive producing the new film.

Take a look at the actor's statement on Facebook:

If there are people who has the authority to judge the Ghostbusters remake, it's Aykroyd.

Personally, I'm willing to give this movie a fair chance. Trade reports released by The Hollywood Reporter says that films like Sami Raimi's Spider-Man and Daniel Craig's Casino Royale had negative ratings of a respected 65% and 55% before they were released. However, they reportedly overwhelmed at the box office when they hit theaters. It might be the same for Ghostbusters.

What do you think of Aykroyd's statement?

Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15.
