Why Cyborg’s ‘Agonizing Birth’ Was Important in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Cyborg's appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had been quick and somewhat of a cliffhanger. While other super-powered "metahumans" – Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash – were all featured in action on Lex Luthor's database, Cyborg (Ray Fisher) hadn't even been "born" yet during his cameo. In fact, his cameo had been his "birth."

Well, Director Zack Snyder is now explaining why he chose to have the DC superhero introduced in such a way and how his origin story will be told in the DC Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to EW, Snyder said that the brief glimpse of Dr. Silas Stone's son provides fans with a first look at "the Mother Box," adding that the scene was the former football star's "agonizing birth" into Cyborg.

The 50-year-old director added:

I really wanted to show Cyborg's birth because I feel like he plays such a strong part coming up, and I really wanted to give a sense of him. I really want [the audience] to know how far he's come.

In the DC comics, Mother Boxes are small alien supercomputers created by the New Gods which provide its holder infinite possibilities such as the ability to manipulate space, time, and reality itself. From the looks of it, Cyborg is part Mother Box, meaning he'll be having extraordinary "technopath" abilities that will prove useful in the modern world.

It will be interesting to see how the standalone Cyborg film in 2020 will flesh out the story of the superhero and how he'll show off his superpowers in the Justice League.
