What Steven Spielberg Won’t Be Doing In Indiana Jones 5

A fifth Indiana Jones movie is currently underway, and with the Steven Spielberg film in the early stages of development, it remains to be seen exactly what Indy's adventures will be this time around. Well, while we know very little of the movie, Spielberg is getting one thing straight about the movie – he won't go killing off Harrison Ford.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter's major profile on Spielberg during the premiere of The BFG, the filmmaker's latest movie. The profile covers almost the entirety of Spielberg's career, including his plans for Ready Player One and the Indiana Jones franchise. Of course, there were no plot details revealed, but he clarified not killing Ford, saying:

The one thing I will tell you is I'm not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.

While the statement doesn't come off as surprising, it is nevertheless reassuring to know that Indy at least won't die in the film. This echoes Indy 5 producer Frank Marshall's statement during CinemaCon where he practically said only Harrison Fordcan play Indiana Jones.

This reminds me of how director Bryan Singer and scriptwriter Simon Kinberg said that Hugh Jackman is irreplaceable as Wolverine, which is why there are rumors that instead of being replaced, they are introducing a new female Wolverine into the X-Men Universe.

That said, it looks like Steven Spielberg isn't keen on replacing Ford like the last Indiana Jones movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, where it was made apparent that Shia LeBeouf's character, who is Indy' son, could replace him eventually.

Aside from John Williams being back as composer of the franchise, there have been very little to no details released about the movie.

More details will likely pop up in the next months, or perhaps, years.

Indiana Jones 5 is slated for release in 2019.
